"Work efficiency – process optimization” was the topic of a one-week seminar we held for managers from different Russian companies. They participate in an Executive MBA programme of our long-time partner SHFM Higher School of Finance and Management RANEPA in Moscow.

Across all industries, a continuous improvement process has been established in most companies in Germany for decades - even if it is not always called like that. Employees are involved in the improvement of the processes in production, sales and administration, they make their contributions and participate in the implementation. Our seminar dealt with this approach, and related concepts such as Lean Management, Design Thinking, Business Model Innovation and Agile Management were also discussed.

In case studies and exercises, the participants developed concepts for operational processes, changed perspectives and looked at products from the customer's point of view, and experienced the phases of a change project in fast motion.

As the individual employee is a critical success factor in any optimization process, the behavior of managers is of particular importance. Therefore, the seminar did not only deal with methods to increase work effectiveness, but also with change management, encouragement, empowerment and participation of all employees, for example through a "mistake-friendly" corporate culture.

The seminar group visited different companies and was therefore able to gain insights into completely different operational processes: Banking and customer service at Sparkasse Celle, aircraft assembly at Airbus, online trading and worldwide services at Schreiber + Weinert, consulting and training at Deutsche Messe Technology Academy.

In discussions with these companies, it also became clear that today digitization is at the heart of the largest part of process optimizations, including the use of robots.

Towards the end of their stay, the traditional Christmas market opened in Celle, and so our participants were able to discuss the results of the seminar over bratwurst and mulled wine (or mulled beer!) – and could finally relax a little.
